Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede that took place at the Venkateswara Swamy temple in Kashi Bugga, Srikakulam district. The incident, which occurred during Ekadashi celebrations, claimed at least ten lives and left over twenty others injured. The Prime Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and extended prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured.

In a statement, Modi said, “The stampede incident at the Venkateswara Swamy temple in Srikakulam district is very painful. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.” Following his directions, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs. 2 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives and Rs. 50,000 to each of the injured.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed shock over the tragedy. He conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and extended support to those affected. Officials reported that the stampede occurred when large crowds of devotees gathered for worship at the temple. Amid heavy rush, panic spread, leading to several people being trampled. Many women are reported to be among the victims, and authorities fear the death toll could rise further.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed his grief over the loss of lives and directed officials to ensure immediate medical assistance to the injured. He instructed public representatives and district officers to oversee rescue and relief operations at the temple site. Local authorities, with the help of police and medical teams, have been working to manage the situation and provide care to the injured devotees.

The incident has cast a shadow of mourning across the region, prompting renewed calls for improved crowd management during major religious events.
