Jakarta, July 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia, the country’s highest civilian honour, from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during his official visit to Jakarta on Tuesday. The Bintang Adipurna recognises extraordinary service and strengthens the growing strategic partnership between India and Indonesia.
Instituted in 1959, the Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia is the nation’s highest civilian and military decoration. With this recognition, PM Modi has received more than 30 international honours from governments and global institutions.
Earlier in the day, Modi held bilateral talks with President Prabowo Subianto. The leaders discussed expanding cooperation in trade, energy, defence, maritime security and other strategic sectors under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Meanwhile, President Subianto personally welcomed PM Modi at Jakarta airport, a rare diplomatic gesture. Schoolchildren carrying Indian and Indonesian flags greeted the Prime Minister on his way to the Merdeka Palace, where both leaders reviewed ceremonial honours.
Last month, Seychelles honoured PM Modi with the Guardian of the Blue Horizon, its highest award for leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development. Modi dedicated that honour to countries working together against climate change.
During his Indonesia visit, PM Modi will also visit the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta with President Prabowo. He said the visit would further strengthen the cultural bonds between the two nations. Moreover, he is scheduled to interact with the Indian community in Indonesia.
This is PM Modi’s fourth visit to Indonesia and his first bilateral visit since both countries elevated ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018. Indonesia is the first destination of his three nation tour, which also includes Australia and New Zealand.
