Ponnam Prabhakar asks Election Commission to probe Rs 5,000 vote claim
Hyderabad, Nov 1 (Maxim News) : Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has urged the Election Commission to register a case over allegations that Rs 5,000 was offered to Jubilee Hills voters. He released a video statement asking the poll body to investigate the claim and act against those responsible.
Ponnam said the allegation that money was offered to buy votes is serious. He called the claim reprehensible and asked the EC to move suo motu if needed. He said the charge harms democratic norms and must be checked.
The minister accused rival parties of spreading a money centric culture in elections. He listed welfare measures his government has delivered.
He said those programs prove voters choose development over inducements. He named free electricity units, subsidized LPG and new ration cards as examples.
Ponnam also contrasted past episodes of alleged cash for votes. He asked officials to probe any illegal commissions or intermediaries. He warned that if proof emerges, officials and party agents must face legal action.
The Jubilee Hills bypoll has drawn intense campaigning by major parties. BRS leader K T Rama Rao has been actively campaigning in the area.
The contest has seen sharp exchanges over development and minority welfare. Observers say allegations of inducements can escalate tensions during the final days of polling.
Ponnam told reporters he trusted institutional probes and insisted on transparency. He asked party workers to focus on voter outreach and to expose wrongdoers. He also challenged rivals to a public debate on development and governance. (Maxim News)
