Potti Sriramulu Telugu University Named After ‘Suravaram Pratap Reddy: Bill Introduced 

Hyderabad, Mar 17 (Maxim News): Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that instead of Potti Sriramulu, the Telugu University will be named after Suravaram Pratap Reddy. The bill to this effect was introduced in the Assembly by Minister Damodara Rajanarsimha.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that in the previous state legislative sessions, the House had come to the notice of the House to remove the name of Potti Sriramulu from the Telugu University and rename it after Suravaram Pratap Reddy. To this extent, said that the Telugu University will be renamed after Suravaram Pratap Reddy, removing the name of Potti Sriramulu. 

Changing Name Does Not Mean Underestimating Sacrifices

He said that the name change does not mean that the sacrifices of Potti Sriramulu are being underestimated. He said that we should remember his sacrifices. He clarified that changing the name of Potti Sriramulu University is not against anyone. He said that Potti Sriramulu University will continue in AP. He said that after the advent of Telangana, many universities have been renamed. He said that it is very necessary to remember the great people who fought for Telangana. He said that after the advent of Telangana, the names of RTC and Public Service Commission have been changed. He said that some universities have been named after Professor Jayashankar, Konda Lakshman Bapuji, and PV Narasimha Rao. He clarified that the name of Telugu University is being changed in the same vein. He said that the government’s decision is not for an individual or a caste. He reminded me that Suravaram Pratap Reddy had done a great service to Telangana. CM Revanth Reddy said that Suravaram Pratap Reddy fought against the Nizam.

He said that it is not known whether politics has become contaminated or the thoughts of the leaders have become contaminated. No one has underestimated the efforts made by Potti Sriramulu. He wants everyone to recognize his sacrifice and remember him. He said that some administrative decisions have been taken as part of the administration. He said that we have named those who worked hard for the formation of the state after remembering them. He said that this process has been going on for the last ten years after the re-division of the state. He criticized that some are trying to create misconceptions among some sections.

Various Universities Named After Many People

He said that it is not right for those in central positions to do this. He said that NTR Health University has been named after Kaloji. He said that this is not disrespecting NTR. He said that Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University has been named after Professor Jayashankar. He said that the Horticulture University named after YSR has been named after Konda Lakshman Bapuji. He said that Venkateswara Veterinary University has been named after PV Narasimha Rao. As part of this, he said, they have named Potti Sriramulu Telugu University after Suravaram Pratap Reddy.

He said that the universities that were continuing with those old names in AP have been renamed in Telangana. He said that if there are two universities with the same name, there will be confusion in the administration. That is why they are naming universities and institutions in Telangana state. He clarified that it is not to disrespect individuals. They were angry that those in responsible positions were attributing caste to the decisions taken by the state government for the wider benefit.  

He said that it is wrong if they want to divide based on caste and religion and get political benefits. He said that the stadium named after Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel in Gujarat was removed and named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that they have not made such mistakes. He said that the Cherlapalli Railway terminal should be named after Potti Sriramulu. If there is sincerity, they should get permission from the center, he said to Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay. Revanth Reddy said that they want the Balkamplet Nature Cure Hospital should be named after Rosaiah. CM Revanth Reddy said that a statue of Rosaiah will be unveiled there to glorify his services. (Maxim News)
