Hyderabad, May 10 (Maxim News): Mahesh Bhagwat IPS CP Rachakonda launching the psycho social services emphasized that in times of adversity emotional well-being and mental health are as important as physical health. He said that unfortunately in our society, mental health is not taken seriously but he quoted two recent instances wherein a person committed suicide by jumping from the hospital due to fear of having covid and a youngster who suffered schizophrenia due to isolation for 14 days.
Having come across numerous instances where people are suffering from stress, depression, loneliness, fears, grief, guilt, anxiety because of the pandemic and its affects, CP stated that Rachakonda Police in association with Rachakonda Security Council is launching the psycho social counselling services for all citizens of Telangana. In fact, this service was made available during the lock down period in 2020 and the Counsellors during the first phase addressed more than 200 calls. Now again the counsellors have come forward to resume their services.
Addressing the counsellors, he stated that there is no lock down this time around, but the fear of uncertainty, the anxiety about contracting the virus and its aftermath, the stress of dealing with the challenges thrown by the pandemic, the grief of losing the loved ones, the guilt of being the cause for spread to family members, the depression caused by loss of near and dear ones, the frustration of not being able to lead the earlier lifestyle, the compulsion of new normal, the silent suffering of children due to lack of proper schooling, friends, play, the increasing problems of housewives due to domestic violence or all the burden of pandemic falling upon them in managing the household, the mounting pressure breadwinners of a family in coping with the challenges during the pandemic, helplessness of not being able to handle the situation, and the fear psychosis spread by fake news or negative news all around, amplified tensions with respect to consequences of being positive or being affected by covid either to themselves or to their family members, are all taking tall not only on the health of people but in the most unfortunate situation people are losing their precious life not due to covid but due to the fear of covid.
CP Rachakonda, hence, emphasized the need for psycho social counselling services and said that the counsellors should tackle all the calls deftly and provide the best services.
He appreciated Amina Hussain, Kavita Natarajan, Dr Anita Are who are leading the team of 11 counsellors consisting of Devi Sheshadri, Keerthi Reddy, Suchita Abraham, Lakshmi, Aakriti Agarwal, Krishna Mohan, Srivalli, Angela David, Kaumudi Nagaraj, Nalini Kishan and Kiranmayee.
He commended the services of the counsellors during the first wave and their professional competence in handling the issues and requested anyone whether police personnel or general public not to suffer in silence and reach out for support by calling the helpline number 040 4821 48 800. Helpline counseling timings are 9am to 9 pm from Monday to Saturday in Telugu, English, Hindi languages. He stated that there will be absolute confidentiality and anonymity with respect to the details of the callers and they can freely express their problems.
Addl CP Rachakonda Sri Sudheer Babu IPS stated that the pandemic times are causing lot of grief and depression among the public. He stated that there is dire necessity of such psycho social counselling services to address the otherwise generally neglected aspect of mental health of all irrespective of their being affected with covid or not. He sated that while covid has a direct impact on physical health, it has indirectly manifested its tentacles of fear, stress, depression, grief, etc in all due to various reasons.
DCP Malkajgiri Ms Rakshita Murthy IPS hailed the services of the counsellors at a time when all are being affected more by fear of covid rather than covid itself.
Sri Satish, RKSC Secretary welcomed all counsellors for collaborating with Rachakonda Security Council in offering the services to the public through their medium and proposed to conduct special sessions for th
e margadarshaks, traffic marshals and cyber yoddhas as well.
All the counsellors introduced themselves to the CP, Addl CP and other officers and CP Rachakonda appreciated each of them for having such vast experience in the field, for belonging to various specializations like geriatric counselling, student counselling, child abuse, domestic violence, clinical psychologist, mindfulness expert and many such and working with passion for service to the society.
Finally, CP Rachakonda and Addl CP Rachakonda released the posters on psycho social counselling services and launched the services to the public.
