  • FIR under UAPA as Delhi Police trace Faridabad terror module link

Delhi Police registered an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) after a powerful car blast near the Red Fort on Monday evening left nine people dead and 20 injured. The explosion occurred in a Hyundai i20 near the Red Fort Metro Station, leading investigators to possible terror links in Faridabad and Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said that initial evidence points to a Pulwama-based doctor, Umar Mohammad, who was allegedly driving the car.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level security review at 11 am following the incident. The meeting included Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, NIA Director General Sadanand Vasant Date, and DGP Jammu and Kashmir Nalin Prabhat, who joined virtually. Shah directed top agencies to investigate the blast thoroughly and ensure full security in the national capital.

According to sources, Umar Mohammad, a doctor from Pulwama, drove the car used in the explosion. CCTV footage reportedly shows a masked man behind the wheel. Police suspect that Umar had ties to a Jaish-e-Mohammad-linked terror module based in Faridabad, where 360 kg of ammonium nitrate and other explosives were recently seized. Investigators also discovered that a man named Tariq from Pulwama had given the car to Umar. Authorities believe Umar carried out the attack after several of his associates were arrested earlier in the day.

Police found traces of ammonium nitrate, fuel oil, and detonators at the blast site. The explosion damaged several vehicles and forced the closure of the Red Fort Metro Station. Security forces intensified checks across Delhi, particularly at airports, bus terminals, and railway stations. Delhi Police also conducted overnight searches at hotels and guest houses in Daryaganj and Paharganj, verifying guest records and questioning staff.

Faridabad Police had earlier seized 2,900 kg of explosive materials from eight suspects, including three doctors, raising concerns about a larger “white-collar” terror network operating across state lines. Officials are investigating whether the latest blast was a suicide bombing or part of a coordinated plan. As a precaution, traffic has been restricted on major routes near Red Fort, and Delhi remains under strict surveillance to prevent further incidents.
