Hyderabad, July 23: Double Olympic medallist P V Sindhu crashed out of the China Open after suffering a three game defeat to China’s Chen Yufei in the women’s singles pre quarterfinals on Thursday.
Sindhu went down 16-21, 22-20, 21-18 in a closely fought contest.

Fourth seeded Chen Yufei made a strong start and opened up a 12-6 lead in the first game. However, Sindhu fought back impressively, levelled the score at 16-16 and finished strongly to take the opening game 21-16.
The Indian shuttler continued to battle hard in the second game and earned four match points. However, Chen staged a remarkable comeback to edge the game 22-20 and force a decider.
In the third game, the Chinese player maintained the momentum and controlled the contest to seal victory and book her place in the quarterfinals.
Sindhu’s exit comes just a week after her title winning campaign at the Japan Open.
