Speaking at a press meet on Saturday, March 22, he questioned whether the state unit or the central leadership would decide the appointment. He said that if the state unit picks the president, the role would be nothing more than a “rubber stamp.”

Raja Singh believes it would be better if the central leadership makes the decision. He accused previous state presidents of creating internal groups within the party, which, according to him, damaged the BJP’s reputation.

He also alleged that the party has ignored loyal workers who took the blame for senior leaders and even went to jail for them. Singh warned that if the new president also plays group politics, it will further harm the party’s image.

However, he expressed confidence that the central leadership would give more freedom to Telangana’s MLAs and MPs. “Party workers who promote Hindutva are being sidelined. The new president must ensure this doesn’t continue,” he said.

Singh also defended his outspoken nature, stating, “When I speak, I represent the party’s ideology. If anyone has a problem with me, they can take it up with senior leaders.”

Meanwhile, the BJP is expected to announce the new Telangana unit president soon. Discussions about who will take the position have been ongoing since January.

Current state BJP president and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy confirmed that the appointment will be made soon. He clarified that the nominee doesn’t have to come from an RSS background.

Reddy also highlighted the party’s recent efforts in Telangana, saying that booth and mandal committees have been set up and new members enrolled. He added that 50% of mandal committee presidents are from backward classes and that 33% of party positions in the state will be given to women.
