Hyderabad, May 21 (Maxim News): Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said the Telangana government was taking forward development and welfare programmes inspired by former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Rajiv Gandhi.
The Chief Minister paid floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi’s statue located opposite the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat on the occasion of the late leader’s death anniversary.
Speaking during the programme, Revanth Reddy remembered Rajiv Gandhi’s contribution to the nation and described him as a visionary leader who showed India a new direction by leading the country into the computer and technology era.
He said Rajiv Gandhi played a historic role in preparing Indian youth for the 21st century and modern technological advancements.
The Chief Minister stated that Rajiv Gandhi introduced revolutionary reforms in telecommunications and computerisation at a time when India was entering a new phase of development.
He said the former Prime Minister worked with inspiration from leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi and ultimately sacrificed his life for the unity and integrity of the country.

Revanth Reddy said Rajiv Gandhi strongly believed that women’s participation in governance was essential for national progress. Keeping this vision in mind, he introduced reservations for women in local bodies and encouraged their involvement in administration and decision making.
The Chief Minister urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convene a special session of Parliament and once again introduce the Women’s Reservation Bill by resolving all pending issues related to implementation in Parliament and State Assemblies.
He said women should receive greater representation in legislative institutions to ensure inclusive governance and balanced development.
Telangana Shares Deep Bond With Gandhi Family
Revanth Reddy further said Telangana had a deep political and emotional association with the Gandhi family.
He recalled that Sonia Gandhi took a bold and historic decision in favour of creating a separate Telangana State despite facing enormous political pressure.
The Chief Minister said the people of Telangana would always remember the contribution of the Gandhi family towards the formation of the State.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and several public representatives participated in the programme and paid tribute to Rajiv Gandhi.(Maxim News)
