Rajnath Singh, Vietnam Defence Minister Discuss Maritime Security

Hanoi, May 19: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday held bilateral talks with Vietnam’s Defence Minister Phan Van Giang in Hanoi and discussed expanding cooperation in maritime security, defence industry, training and regional stability.

During the meeting, both leaders reviewed the growing India Vietnam defence partnership and explored ways to strengthen strategic cooperation in key sectors. Rajnath Singh stated that India remains committed to deepening its Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam.

The two leaders also jointly inaugurated a Language Lab established at Vietnam’s Air Force Officers College. In addition, both sides exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Artificial Intelligence and quantum technology.

India Vietnam defence cooperation expands

Earlier in the day, Rajnath Singh paid tribute to Vietnam’s founding leader Ho Chi Minh at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi on his 136th birth anniversary.

Sharing details on social media, Singh said Ho Chi Minh’s vision and leadership continue to inspire generations and strengthen India Vietnam friendship based on mutual respect and shared values.

The Defence Minister arrived in Hanoi on Monday for a two day visit to Vietnam. The visit marks ten years of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, which was recently upgraded to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the visit of Vietnamese President To Lam to India.

Addressing the Indian community in Hanoi on Monday, Rajnath Singh described Operation Sindoor as a reflection of India’s growing strength and confidence. He said India remains committed to its no first use nuclear policy but would firmly respond to any threat to national security.

Singh also highlighted India’s rapid progress in the semiconductor sector and invited global partners to participate in India’s technological and economic growth. After concluding his Vietnam visit, he is scheduled to travel to South Korea for an official visit from May 19 to 21.
