New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon on the first day of the Monsoon Session after Opposition members created an uproar over the police action against the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest and demanded a discussion on the NEET paper leak issue.
The disruption came amid protests in Delhi, where CJP supporters organised a ‘Chalo Parliament’ march demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination.
Opposition Raises CJP Protest, NEET Issue in Rajya Sabha
Outside Parliament, police stopped the protest march near Jantar Mantar, stating that permission had not been granted for the rally. As protesters attempted to move forward, a confrontation broke out between demonstrators and police, following which police used force to disperse the crowd.
Inside the Rajya Sabha, Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge accused the Centre of trying to suppress the CJP protests through police action. He sought permission to raise the issues of the NEET paper leak and alleged irregularities in the CBSE examination system.
However, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar did not allow the discussion during the proceedings.
Opposition members from the INDIA bloc then entered the Well of the House and raised slogans against the government despite repeated appeals from the Chair to maintain order.
With the disruption continuing, the Chairman adjourned the House till 12 noon.
The Monsoon Session began amid heightened political tensions, with the NEET controversy and protests over alleged examination irregularities expected to remain major issues during the session.
