Delhi/hyderabad, Feb 20 (Maxim News): The NDA is set to make a comeback in the Rajya Sabha. The ruling coalition currently has 133 seats in the 245-seat House. The NDA is set to win an additional 4 seats in the biennial elections to be held in 37 seats in ten states in March. That is, it is going to reach 137 seats. This is 14 seats more than the simple majority (123). It will not need to rely much on other parties for the passage of key bills. Meanwhile.. Maratha warrior and NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar’s term ends in March. It seems difficult for him to win this time.
Elections will be held for 7 Rajya Sabha seats in Maharashtra. Out of these, 6 seats are sure to go to the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP alliance. Only if the Maha Vikas Aghadi partners Uddhav Sena, NCP-SP and Congress join hands, there is a chance of getting a seat. Uddhav Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi is also retiring. If Pawar contests, the NCP MLAs (41) led by the late Ajit Pawar are likely to lean towards him, say Sharad Pawar’s camp. Ajit’s camp is rejecting this. It is known that after Ajit’s sudden death, his wife Sunetra Pawar became the Deputy CM.
Sharad Pawar and his daughter, MP Supriya Sule, were not present for her oath-taking. Political sources say that there are no chances of a merger. Meanwhile, the NDA is in power in 6 of the ten states where the biennial Rajya Sabha elections are held. Of these, 7 are from Maharashtra, 5 from Bihar, 4 from Odisha, 3 from Assam, 2 from Chhattisgarh, and 2 seats are vacant in Haryana.
Of these, two seats in Maharashtra and Assam will go to the ‘Indi’ alliance. One seat in Odisha will go to the BJD. In the remaining 20 seats, the NDA has a better chance of winning. In Tamil Nadu, the ruling DMK will get 4 out of the 6 seats, while NDA partner AIADMK will get two. In Bengal, TMC will get four out of the 5 seats, BJP will get one. In Telangana, 2 seats, and Congress will get one seat in Himachal Pradesh. This means that out of the 37 seats, NDA will get 23, while opposition parties and others will get 14. (Maxim News)
