Hyderabad, April 18: N Ramchander Rao was placed under house arrest ahead of a protest over the Women Reservation Bill in Hyderabad. Police acted after the party called for a demonstration near the Chief Minister’s residence.

Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha burned an effigy of Rahul Gandhi. They criticised the Congress over its position on the bill.
Meanwhile, the BJP and its allies have launched a nationwide protest campaign. The move aims to mobilise support for the legislation.
The development follows the failure of the Constitution Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. The bill fell short of the required two thirds majority during voting.
Opposition parties have opposed linking women’s reservation with delimitation. They demanded immediate implementation of the quota.
