Ramzan 2025: PM Modi Extends Greetings As India Observes First Roza
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes to the people of the country on Sunday, marking the beginning of the holy Islamic month of Ramzan.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Modi wrote: “As the blessed month of Ramzan begins, may it bring peace and harmony in our society.”
“This sacred month epitomises reflection, gratitude, and devotion, also reminding us of the values of compassion, kindness, and service. Ramzan Mubarak!” he added
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also extended their wishes on the occasion. Pushing for peace and amity across communities, Kharge wrote on X: “As Ramazan begins, may we embrace this sacred month of blessings with prayer, forgiveness, and a renewed commitment to serving others. Let us strive to spread compassion, peace, and amity throughout our communities. Ramazan Mubarak!”
Gandhi, meanwhile, hoped for a peaceful heart: “May this sacred month fill your life with happiness, and bring peace to your heart.”
During the month of Ramzan, also known as Ramadan, Muslims across the world practise Roza — they fast from dawn till the time of sunset. This practice is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which signifies values of devotion, self-restraint, and spiritual contemplation.
It is known to be one of the most sacred months in Islam, symbolising a period of purification and self-discipline for the Muslim community globally.
The holy month began after the sighting of the crescent moon on Saturday evening.
