Rekha Gupta Urges Delhi People To Use Green Firecrackers
New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has urged the residents of Delhi to celebrate Diwali responsibly by using only green firecrackers, emphasizing the importance of protecting the city from worsening air pollution.
Appealing to citizens to celebrate the festival in an eco-friendly and traditional manner, Gupta encouraged people to light diyas, make rangoli, and share sweets instead of relying on fireworks that harm the environment.
In her Diwali message to the people of Delhi, the Chief Minister said, “This festival of lights should be celebrated in an atmosphere of peace and harmony. On this Diwali, my heart is filled with joy and good wishes for all citizens.”
The appeal comes after the Supreme Court recently permitted the sale and bursting of green firecrackers in the Delhi-NCR region under specific conditions. The court allowed their use between 6 am and 7 pm on the day before Diwali and from 8 am to 10 pm on Diwali day. A complete ban on conventional firecrackers remains in force.
Gupta reaffirmed her government’s commitment to public welfare, sustainable development, and environmental protection, saying that her administration is determined to “realise the vision of a prosperous and progressive Delhi.”
“The foremost duty of a Chief Minister is to serve people with affection and dedication,” she said, highlighting efforts to improve governance and welfare schemes. “By addressing shortcomings in earlier policies, we’ve ensured that pensions and aid reach the rightful beneficiaries — especially the poor and elderly. We are also taking continuous steps to empower women through education and employment opportunities.”
She added that the government is fast-tracking infrastructure projects, including flyovers and sports facilities, and focusing on long-pending development initiatives.
Touching upon environmental priorities, Gupta said that cleaning the Yamuna River remains one of her government’s top commitments. “Work is underway on a war footing, and we are confident that soon the Yamuna will regain its pristine form,” she stated.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister visited the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Children’s Home for Orphaned Boys at Tis Hazari, where she spent time with the children, distributed Diwali gifts, and extended her festive greetings.
“The smiles of these children are the greatest Diwali gift for me,” she said, reaffirming that the Delhi government is committed to ensuring every child has access to education, safety, and a nurturing environment that helps them become self-reliant and confident citizens.
