Relief for Revanth Reddy As SC Rejects BJP Defamation Case
Delhi/Hyderabad, Sept 8 (Maxim News): Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy got relief in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court refused to hear the defamation case filed by TBJP against Revanth.
Meanwhile, the defamation petition filed by Telangana BJP against CM Revanth Reddy in the Supreme Court was heard on Monday. Party leader Kasam Venkateshwarlu filed a complaint in the Hyderabad People’s Representatives Court last year, alleging that the remarks made by Revanth Reddy in the Kothagudem meeting during the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign had damaged the reputation of the BJP. He claimed that Revanth Reddy had made false remarks that reservations would be abolished if the BJP came to power.
The court said that the case will continue under Section 125 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. CM Revanth Reddy approached the High Court. The High Court set aside the trial court’s order, saying that political speeches are exaggerated and cannot be considered defamation.
However, the BJP challenged the High Court’s verdict in the Supreme Court. The petition came up for hearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice BR Gavai on Monday. The Supreme Court has now also dismissed this case. Moreover, the Supreme Court expressed its anger at the petitioner, the BJP leader, who asked not to turn the court into a political battleground. On this occasion, the CJI commented that it would have been better if political leaders were more sensitive. (Maxim News)
