Hyderabad, Sept. 21: Congress leader Mohammed Waliullah Sameer said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had brought Hyderabad’s Old City into the development mainstream.
Sameer made the remarks on Sunday while marking 1,000 days of the Congress government.
He said the government had focused on infrastructure, healthcare, housing and connectivity projects in the Old City.
Sameer highlighted the Rs 620 crore Chanchalguda Santoshnagar flyover and the Old City Metro project.
He also cited the new Osmania General Hospital, Indiramma housing, Mir Alam Tank development and the Musi rejuvenation programme.
Sameer Highlights Metro, Housing and Healthcare Projects
Sameer said the recently inaugurated 3.2 km Chanchalguda Santoshnagar steel flyover was an example of completing a long pending project.
He described the Old City Metro as a key connectivity project. The proposed corridor will connect MGBS with Chandrayangutta.
The Telangana government has also sought expansion of Hyderabad Metro networks. The state has submitted proposals for Phase II expansion.
Sameer said Metro connectivity would link Old City residents with employment centres, colleges, hospitals and business areas.
He also highlighted the new Osmania General Hospital being developed at Goshamahal.
The Telangana government has said the new hospital is being developed at a cost of around Rs 2,700 crore.
Sameer said housing was another major focus. He cited the proposal for one lakh Indiramma houses in the Hyderabad Core Urban Region.
He said housing within the city could help poorer families remain closer to workplaces, schools and healthcare facilities.
Sameer also referred to the proposed cable stayed bridge across Mir Alam Tank.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has previously said the government plans to develop the area around the tank as a tourism destination.
He also highlighted the Musi rejuvenation programme. The state government has described the project as covering river restoration, flood management and related urban infrastructure.
Sameer also cited welfare measures implemented by the Congress government.
He referred to free bus travel for women, free electricity under Gruha Jyothi and subsidised LPG cylinders.
He also mentioned new ration cards and the increase in Rajiv Aarogyasri health coverage to Rs 10 lakh.
The Telangana government has separately highlighted the increase in Aarogyasri coverage and the construction of the new Osmania hospital as key initiatives.
Sameer said education and employment would be important areas for the Old City in the coming years.
He said the government had announced additional support for college development and employment opportunities for economically weaker families.
Sameer also cited the government’s position on the existing four percent reservation for socially and educationally backward Muslims.
He said the Old City needed coordinated development across transport, housing, healthcare, education and employment.
Sameer further claimed that the area had received greater political and administrative attention under the Congress government.
He said the government’s next priority should be completing ongoing and proposed projects within their planned timelines.
