Hyderabad, June 13: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday hit back at Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy over demands for his resignation, saying the Centre should first explain the status of promises made during national elections.
Addressing the media at the Secretariat, Revanth Reddy questioned whether promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been fulfilled. He referred to commitments including creating two crore jobs annually and bringing back black money to deposit Rs. 15 lakh into citizens’ accounts.
The Chief Minister said accountability should apply equally and argued that questions should also be raised over unfulfilled national commitments. He added that if the Prime Minister chose to resign over unfulfilled promises, he would also be prepared to dissolve his cabinet.
Revanth Reddy also accused both BJP and BRS leaders of creating hurdles for the expansion of the Hyderabad Metro project.
He claimed metro expansion areas are represented by BJP and BRS legislators and questioned why support and approvals had not been extended. According to the Chief Minister, the state government requires around Rs. 40,000 crore for expansion and had requested approvals from the Centre.
The Chief Minister alleged delays in approvals and claimed the Centre had extended support to metro projects in other cities while Hyderabad was still awaiting progress. He stated that the state government is prepared to proceed with expansion even without direct central participation if required approvals are granted.
Revanth Reddy further alleged that political considerations were affecting infrastructure decisions and accused opposition leaders of influencing the process. He reiterated that the state’s priority is to move ahead with Metro Phase 2 while asking the Centre to support the project.
