Internet, June 15: The United States and Iran have announced a framework peace agreement aimed at ending military hostilities and opening the way for further negotiations, with a formal signing expected on June 19 in Switzerland.
Initial announcements from both sides indicate the agreement includes an immediate halt to military operations and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for commercial movement. However, the complete text of the agreement has not yet been made public.
Reports circulating about a detailed 14 point framework remain unverified publicly, and officials have not officially released the final negotiated document.
The most sensitive issue in the negotiations remains Iran’s nuclear programme. According to available details, both countries are expected to continue talks for 60 days to work toward a broader final settlement. Discussions are expected to include inspections, uranium related issues and future verification mechanisms.
