Revanth Reddy Merger Faces Sharp Attack from KTR

  • KTR criticises Revanth Reddy over GHMC merger and real estate agenda
  • KTR questions move to merge 27 ULBs with GHMC and warns of fallout

Hyderabad: Revanth Reddy merger plans of 27 urban local bodies with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation faced strong criticism from BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao, who alleged that the Congress government was pushing a hidden real estate agenda. He said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had emerged as the “Anaconda of Corruption” and claimed that the merger plan did not follow any public process.

Rama Rao made these comments during his visit to the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in Warangal. He reviewed the industries operating there and said that global companies such as Youngone, Kitex Group and Ganesha Ecosphere had already begun operations. However, he noted that the work in the park was moving at a slow pace and the infrastructure was not being fully used. He urged the government to complete all pending works to support the textile sector.

He questioned the sudden move of the Congress government to merge 27 urban local bodies in and around the Outer Ring Road with GHMC. He said, “Nobody knows on whose request this merger is being done. No resolution was passed by any of the 27 local bodies. No discussion was held with MLAs or elected representatives. There was not a single line debated in the Assembly. No all party meeting was called either to discuss the issue.”

He also said that the Hyderabad Industrial land transformation policy had already shown the intentions of the government. He warned that the BRS would soon announce a plan of action to oppose such policies. He demanded that the government withdraw the HILTP and listen to public concerns.

Rama Rao recalled that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao had built the base for the state’s textile sector with the “Farm to Fashion, Farm to Fabric” model. He said that the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park was developed after long efforts and cooperation from farmers. He accused the Congress government of neglecting basic infrastructure, including flyovers, drainage systems and other civic works. He also alleged that there was an attempt to divert textile park land into commercial projects.

He further criticised the Congress over BC reservations, saying that the promised 42 percent was reduced to 17 percent in local body elections. He said the people of Telangana would respond at the right time. He added that while the previous government worked for decentralisation, the current government was centralising “power, resources and corruption.”
