Revanth Reddy Orders Crackdown On GST Evasion, Calls For AI-Driven Reforms In Tax System
Hyderabad, July 30 (Maxim News): In a firm push to strengthen Telangana’s revenue system, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed the Commercial Taxes Department to take decisive action against GST evasion by traders and companies across the state. Chairing a high-level review meeting on Tuesday night, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for comprehensive reforms to boost GST compliance and modernize tax collection mechanisms.
Revanth Reddy stressed that Telangana must study and adopt best practices from other states to plug revenue leakages and ensure that tax laws are effectively implemented. “Curbing GST evasion is not just about enforcement—it’s about building an efficient, transparent, and taxpayer-friendly system,” he said during the meeting.
AI-Powered GST Call Centre on the Cards
To support businesses and promote timely GST payments, the Chief Minister instructed officials to establish a dedicated GST call centre. He proposed the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to handle common taxpayer queries, improve accuracy, and reduce delays in grievance redressal.
“This call centre must be smart, responsive, and capable of addressing real-time issues faced by taxpayers. AI tools can make this system seamless and trustworthy,” said Revanth Reddy.
Upgrading Services and Infrastructure
The Chief Minister directed that Commercial Tax offices across Telangana be upgraded to provide better services and infrastructure for taxpayers. “Offices should be more accessible, professional, and welcoming. The taxpayer experience needs to improve significantly,” he noted.
He also emphasized the importance of data-driven decision-making and urged department heads to track trends, detect anomalies, and take preventive action against tax manipulation or evasion.
Learning from the Best: State-Level Study Initiative
Revanth Reddy instructed the department to conduct a detailed study of GST policies and mechanisms followed in neighboring states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. The aim is to replicate successful models and customize them for Telangana’s unique economic ecosystem.
