Revanth Blames KCR Govt for Krishna Water Injustice

The issue of the previous government committing a grave injustice by not achieving the water share due to Telangana in Krishna waters by allocating 512 TMC to AP and agreeing to a share of 299 TMC to the state came up for discussion in the meeting. Legal experts explained to the CM that AP had mentioned before the tribunal that the then Chief Minister KCR had agreed that Telangana should get 299 TMC out of the 811 TMC allocated to the joint AP. The Chief Minister commented that this situation had arisen due to the fact that Telangana’s interests were not taken into account in the use of Krishna waters in the joint state.

He said that the KCR government, which has been in power for the last ten years, has failed miserably in achieving its fair quota in Krishna waters. He was furious that the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy and Dindi lift irrigation schemes on Krishna were kept pending and that it had committed a grave betrayal in the matter of water shares. He clarified that according to the legal principles of river share distribution along with the rights of the lower states, the newly formed Telangana state is due a total share of 904 TMC of Krishna waters, and arguments should be prepared accordingly. He said that the AP government has illegally diverted Krishna waters due to the negligence and indifference of the previous government, and that the matter should be brought before the tribunal.

Revanth: AP Diverting Krishna Water Illegally

CM Revanth said that AP is diverting Krishna water from the Pothireddypadu head regulatory to other basins before the Srisailam reservoir is full. He said that the Rayalaseema lift irrigation scheme is being completed and arrangements are being made to divert 10 TMC per day from Srisailam through all projects. He directed that the capacity of canals should be increased wherever possible and all the issues of illegal water diversion up to Pattiseema, Pulichintala and Chintalapudi should be reported to the tribunal with evidence and that they should be prepared for that. He said that due to AP’s illegal diversion of Krishna water from Srisailam, there is a danger of the hydroelectric projects at Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar and Pulichintala being shut down.

He said that AP’s actions are hampering the production of hydroelectric power at low cost. He said that these matters should also be brought to the attention of the tribunal. He urged the tribunal to bring to its attention the fact that the joint Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda districts have no other option but Krishna waters. He said that this is the right opportunity to present arguments on behalf of Telangana and that the arguments should not be missed under any circumstances as they will protect the interests of the state and guide the future of the shares due in Krishna river waters.
