Hyderabad, June 22: Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT) at Basar has prohibited students from using mobile phones in classrooms, libraries and messes to reduce distractions and improve academic focus.
According to a circular issued on Monday, students will not be allowed to use mobile phones in designated academic and common areas on the campus.

University officials did not officially explain the reasons behind the decision. However, sources indicated that rising mobile phone usage was affecting students’ concentration and study habits.
Officials reportedly introduced the restriction to prevent misuse of mobile devices and encourage greater focus on academics.
Recent incidents involving student suicides and campus protests are also believed to have influenced the decision to regulate the use of mobile phones and digital gadgets.
Meanwhile, the move triggered concern among sections of students.
Some students questioned the decision and argued that restrictions alone would not address broader administrative concerns. They said the university should prioritise improving campus administration and student support systems.
Student organisations are expected to raise objections and may launch protests seeking withdrawal of the circular.
Further developments are awaited.
