Vikarabad: Four persons including three women were killed and another woman injured in a road crash involving an auto-rickshaw and a truck at Mominpet in Vikarabad district on Saturday morning, the police said.
The incident took place at Ijra Chittampalli village of Mominpet block, when the auto-rickshaw, carrying five agriculture labourers to cotton fields at Shankarpalli, was hit by a speeding truck. The auto driver had stopped the vehicle to pick up some more workers from the village.
Poor visibility in the morning on account of heavy fog in the area could have been the reason for the incident. A RTC bus coming from the opposite direction just mussed being hit by the truck, police said.
“The truck, travelling from Sangareddy to Tandur, was speeding and the driver may have failed to notice the auto-rickshaw parked on the side of the road and rammed into it,” said A Ravi Kumar sub inspector Mominpet police station.
Those who died are identified as Sheni Bai (55), Sandhya (18), Nithin (15) and Sona Bai (15), who were sitting in the auto died on the spot. Another unidentified woman is critically injured and shifted to a nearby hospital.
The injured woman was shifted to government hospital by the police with the support of villagers. Few other persons who were in the truck sustained injuries and were administered first aid.
Senior police officials visited the spot and inspected the accident site. The police later deployed heavy duty cranes to remove auto-rickshaw, truck and the RTC bus from the spot. Long traffic jam occurred on the Vikarabad road after the accident as hundreds of people from the nearby villages rushed to the spot on coming to know about the incident.
