Rs. 4 Lakhs Were Stolen From A 78 Year-Old Man In The Name Of Electricity Bill

Hyderabad. April 23 (Maxim News): Cyber criminals duped an elderly man into paying his electricity bill.  According to Hyderabad Cyber Crime ACP Shiva Maruti, cyber fraudsters called a 78-year-old retired employee from the city and threatened to cut off the electricity supply to his house in two hours because he had not paid the electricity bill.  The elderly man said that he had paid the bill.

They made a video call and showed that the bill was pending in the system.  For help, the cyber cheaters sent an application to the elderly man and suggested he install it.  Believing their words, the elderly man installed the application and entered his details, his credit details, and his current bill details.  Later, the victim received messages on his mobile that money had been debited from his account.

It was found that Rs. 49,999 was lost from his credit card eight times, totalling Rs. 3,99,992. Following this, an online complaint was filed with the Cyber Crime Police.  A case has been registered and an investigation is underway, the ACP said. (Maxim News)
