- South Central Railway plans 60 special Sabarimala trains
- Reservations open from today for Andhra and Telangana pilgrims
The South Central Railway (SCR) has announced 60 special trains for Sabarimala pilgrims to handle the heavy rush expected during the Mandala Puja and Makar Jyoti season. These special trains will operate from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to key destinations in Kerala, offering better convenience to Ayyappa devotees during the pilgrimage period. Ticket reservations for these special trains are open from today, and complete details are available on the railway website.
According to the schedule, the trains will mainly connect cities in the Hyderabad region to Kollam, one of the closest railway stations to Sabarimala. The services will begin from the last week of November and continue till the first or second week of January, depending on the rush of passengers. The special services will remain operational until January 2026.
To help pilgrims from different regions, these trains will stop at major stations like Kazipet and Warangal in Telangana, and at Vijayawada, Gudur, Ongole, Nellore, Renigunta, and Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh. These halts are aimed at ensuring maximum accessibility for devotees traveling to Sabarimala. Passengers have been advised to make advance bookings to avoid last-minute inconvenience, as demand for seats remains extremely high during the pilgrimage season.
The SCR has also urged travelers to verify all train numbers, timings, and operating days through the official South Central Railway website or at Railway Enquiry Centres before planning their journey. With thousands of devotees expected to travel from Telugu states to Kerala, the move to arrange these services is seen as a major relief for Ayyappa devotees this festive season.
