Sanctions Should Be Imposed On RSS: USCIRF Sensational Report

Delhi/Hyderabad, Mar 17 (Maxim News) The US government’s Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCRF) has recommended sanctions targeting India’s foreign intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), and the BJP’s parent organization, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), for their role in religious freedom violations, in its 2026 annual report. This is the seventh consecutive time that the commission has issued a report expressing concerns about religious freedom violations in India. However, the US State Department has not taken into account the commission’s recommendation to declare India a country of religious freedom violations in any year so far.

The commission, in its report released on March 4, recommended that the US government impose sanctions on the RSS for its “tolerance” and “serious violations of religious freedom.” In its 2025 annual report, the commission recommended sanctions on the RSS and its then-officer Vikas Yadav in connection with the 2023 assassination attempt on an American national in New York. The commission urged the Trump administration to link future security assistance and bilateral trade policies to improvements in religious freedom in India. The commission, which noted that threats and harassment of US citizens and religious minorities continue, urged the US Congress to invoke Section 6 of the Arms Export Control Act to halt arms sales to India.

RSS should be banned: Congress

Congress on Monday said in its daily X that an official commission of the US government had warned that the RSS had become a threat to the religious freedom of the people of India. The Congress recalled the ban imposed on the RSS by Sardar Patel after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. The Congress said that the RSS, which opposes the Constitution, says that the country should run according to Manusmriti. The Congress accused the RSS of being a poison to the unity and brotherhood of this country.

False report: Center

The Department of External Affairs on Monday rejected the latest annual report of the US Commission recommending sanctions on RSS and RAW. In a statement on Monday, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal criticized the Commission for portraying a distorted narrative of India in its report rather than objective facts. He said that we categorically reject the report. Jaiswal said that the Commission has been providing distorted reports on India for the past several years and that the credibility of the Commission is being questioned. He suggested that the Commission should focus on the attacks on Hindu temples in the US and the increasing harassment and intolerance against the Indian community in the US. (Maxim News)
