SC Asks Center Explanation On Recognition Of Same Sex Marriage
Delhi/Hyderabad, Nov 25 (Maxim News): The Supreme Court issued the orders on a petition filed by a gay couple from Hyderabad. The supreme Court has issued a notice to the Center to express its opinion on same sex marriage.
The notices also went to Attorney General R.Venkataramani stating that some couples have petitioned the Supreme Court asking the government to recognize same sex marriages under the Special Marriage Act. supriyo chakrabarti and Abhay Dang, a gay couple living in Hyderabad also filed a petition.
A bench headed by the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli heard the petitions today. The Supreme Court directed the Central government as well as the Attorney General to give an explanation on the matter. In their petition, a Hyderabad couple has sought steps to extend the right to marry whomever they like in the community. (Maxim News)
