SC Directs Centre To Give Appointment File Of Arun Goel As ECs

Delhi/Hyderabad, Nov 23 (Maxim News): The Supreme Court expressed its anger on the appointment of Election Commissioners. It directed the Central government to give the appointment file of Arun Goel who recently took charge as the Election Commissioner.

The Election Commission is advised to work independently. The Supreme Court has commented that there should be transparency in the members of the commission to take action even if there are allegations against the Prime Minister.

Congress leader Anup Bharanwal filed a petition in the Supreme court asking the election officials to stay away from the influence of political parties. Senior Advocate Prashant Bhushan argued on behalf of the petitioner.

The Chief Justice of India should be included in the appointment committee of the Chief electoral Officer,, a collegium like system should be established for the appointment of CEC and EC, he argued. The petitioner raised objections to the appointment of Election Commissioner Arun Goel. IAS Arun Goel who served as a central officer till November 17, VRS was announced on November 18 and Arun goel was appointed as EC on November 19. With this, the Supreme court adjourned the hearing till tomorrow to file the appointment of Arun Goel. (Maxim News)
