SEC Asks Officials To Get Ready For Municipal Polls
Hyderabad, July 15 (Maxim News): Telangana State Election Commissioner V Nagi Reddy today asked the officials concerned to hold the polls for municipalities and corporations in an impartial and transparent manner.
Nagi Reddy held a meeting with them here on Monday and instructed them to gear up for conduct of the polls and ensure that all arrangements are in place. Training to the observers is being offered, who will be part for the conduct of Municipal Elections in the State. He said the Municipal Elections to be held in 132 municipalities out of 142 and every ward will be considered a segment for the polls. The State Election Commission has formulated guidelines for smooth and fair conduct of the polls. The poll body has informed that 3,149 wards will be going for the polls.
Returning officials, poll agents and machinery are in place in advance and see that the polls are held as planned with voter list. It is for the voters to participate in the poll process and the officials’ role was key to hold smooth polls on the lines of the polls held for Assembly to Rural Local Bodies. Every polling station will have 800 voters to exercise their franchise.
Nagi Reddy said that the returning officers of the respective Municipalities will give notifications and collect the nominations papers. He said that t-poll website has been opened for voter convenience will have details of voters and people can download the voter list as well. He instructed them to settle issues with political parties. The poll body chief asked the police wing to provide better security arrangements at polling stations and strong rooms.
For every Municipality there will be distribution, collection and counting centers will be arranged. The poll body will issue draft on July 16 and announce final list of polling stations on July 21.
Special Chief Secretary Suresh Chanda, Additional DGP Govind Singh, Municipal Administration Commissioner T K Sri Devi, State Election Commissioner Secretary Ashok Kumar and others were present. (Maxim News)
