Senior Actress Geethanjali No More
Hyderabad, Oct.31 (Maxim News): Senior actress and veteran heroine Geethanjali passed away at the wee hours on Thursday due to cardiac arrest. While undergoing treatment, she breathed her last at a private hospital near Film Nagar here. She was 74. Born in Kakinada, she featured in over 500 films across multiple languages like Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi .
Encouraged by her father, Geethanjali entered the world of cinema in 1961 with Rani Ratna Prabha, directed by the then star director, BA Subbarao. Her performance captured the attention of legendary actor-director N.T.Rama rao and she was cast as goddess Sithadevi in Seetha Rama Kalyanam in 1961.
Some of Geetanjali’s noted films include Illau, Sitarama Kalyanam with NTR, Adurti Subba Rao’s Dr Chakravarthy, Murali Krishna, Abbayigaru– Ammayigaru, Kaalam Marindi, Letha Manasulu, Bobbili Yuddham, Devatha, Ghudachari 116 and Sambarala Rambabu.
Her original named was Mani.During the peak of her film career, she got married to fellow actor Ramakrishna after sharing the screen with him in a few films. Her son Adith Srinivas also tested his fate as an actor with the 2008 film Bhuma.
After marriage, Geethanjali took a long break from films and returned as a character artist. Her last movie in Telugu is Tamannaah Bhatia’s Mahalakshmi. The last rites of the great actress were performed this evening and tributes started to come in from all quarters of the film fraternity. (Maxim News)
