Shabbir Ali Mourns Passing Of Maulana Ghulam Mohammad Vastanvi
Hyderabad, May 4: Senior Congress leader and Advisor to the Telangana Government, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Maulana Ghulam Mohammad Vastanvi, a distinguished Islamic scholar and educationist, who passed away on Sunday.
In a heartfelt condolence message, Shabbir Ali hailed Maulana Vastanvi as a visionary reformer who dedicated his life to the service of Islam, the promotion of education, and the upliftment of the Muslim community. “He was a pioneer in integrating traditional Islamic education with modern professional studies. His efforts have created a transformative impact that will guide generations to come,” Shabbir said.
Highlighting the Maulana’s extraordinary legacy, Shabbir Ali recalled his role as the founder and rector of Jamia Islamia Ishaatul Uloom in Akkalkuwa, Maharashtra – a groundbreaking institution that went on to establish the country’s first minority-run, MCI-recognised medical college. “Maulana Vastanvi proved that Islamic institutions can lead the way in both religious and modern education,” he remarked.
Sharing his personal association with the late scholar, Shabbir Ali said that the Kashiful Uloom, the madrasa he had established in Kamareddy, was inaugurated by Maulana Vastanvi himself. “We often discussed the educational empowerment of Muslims. Our visions were aligned – we both strongly believed that madarsa students should be grounded in Islamic knowledge but also equipped with modern academic and professional skills,” he recalled.

Shabbir Ali also remembered how Maulana Vastanvi actively sought approval for the medical college by personally approaching the then Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, driven by a clear vision to uplift the Muslim community through quality education.
“Maulana Vastanvi was not just a scholar; he was an institution in himself – a symbol of humility, wisdom, and dedication to public service,” Shabbir added.
Extending his condolences to the bereaved family, students, and the thousands who were touched by Maulana Vastanvi’s work, Shabbir Ali prayed for his maghfirah and high rank in Jannah. “His passing is an irreparable loss to the religious, academic, and social fabric of the nation,” he said.“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Today, we mourn the loss of a true servant of deen and humanity,” he concluded. (Maxim News)
