Shabbir Ali Praises Dr. Khusro Hussaini Efforts In Transforming Gulbarga Into A Centre Of Learning

Hyderabad, November 7: Advisor to Telangana Government (SC, ST, OBC & Minorities) Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Thursday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr Syed Shah Khusro Hussaini, the esteemed Sajjada Nasheen of Hazrath Khaja Bande Nawaz Dargah in Kalaburagi (Gulbarga), Karnataka, and lauded his far-reaching contributions to education and Sufism.

Shabbir Ali said Dr Khusro Hussaini, who passed away at the age of 79, left a significant legacy in educational reform and spiritual leadership. He noted his transformative efforts in advancing educational opportunities for generations of students.

Shabbir Ali highlighted Dr. Hussaini’s monumental contributions to the Khaja Education Society, which he led from 2007, bringing extensive organizational, administrative, and functional reforms. These changes strengthened existing institutions and laid the foundation for new educational avenues. Dr Hussaini’s leadership saw the establishment of the Khaja Banda Nawaz Institute of Medical Sciences (KBNIMS) in 2000, a pioneering medical institution that improved healthcare education in the region. The institute has since grown to be a reputable center for medical training, fulfilling Dr. Hussaini’s vision of bridging healthcare access and educational quality.

In August 2018, Dr Khusro Hussaini achieved another milestone by establishing Khaja Bandanawaz University, an institution dedicated to higher learning that integrates academic and spiritual education. The university was envisioned as an extension of his family’s legacy of spreading Islamic and Sufi teachings while creating a platform for academic excellence. Shabbir Ali praised Dr Hussaini’s efforts to make the university the first in India affiliated with a Dargah, blending secular and religious education in a way that appealed to students across diverse backgrounds. His initiatives significantly increased educational facilities and provided local students with access to quality education within their region.

Further, Shabbir Ali acknowledged Dr. Khusro Hussaini’s commitment to promoting Sufi and Islamic values through educational institutions, which serve as academic centers and beacons of spiritual guidance. His role as vice-president of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board underscored his dedication to preserving cultural and educational values while addressing the contemporary needs of the community.

 Remembering Dr Khusro Hussaini’s legacy, Shabbir Ali noted that his contributions to Islamic scholarship, particularly his deep understanding of Sufism and scholarly approach, had left an indelible mark. Shabbir Ali added that his work continues to inspire the younger generation to pursue knowledge and service, calling his passing a profound loss for the educational and Sufi communities across the country. (eom)
