Speaking at Udaan 2025, a felicitation ceremony for TMREIS students who secured MBBS, BDS, and IIT admissions, he said the Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) was conceptualized under the Congress government led by Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in 2007.

The event, held at Banjara Bhavan, was attended by Minority Welfare Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar, TMREIS President Md Faheem Qureshi, Minority Welfare Secretary Md Shafiullah, and senior officials. Shabbir Ali said the BRS government only rebranded the Congress initiative without investing in permanent infrastructure, which was part of the original framework.

He emphasized that the Congress had institutionalized minority education through a series of Government Orders issued between 2006 and 2007, establishing both pre-matric and post-matric hostels and English medium residential schools across districts like Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Warangal, and Nalgonda.

Highlighting the difference in approach, Shabbir Ali noted that while the YSR-led Congress planned for permanent campuses, the ten-year BRS rule left a majority of TMREIS schools operating in rented or shared buildings.

Only 13 of the schools had permanent campuses, while 17 functioned from government premises and over 200 remained in rented facilities. He said the Revanth Reddy government is now rectifying this by identifying 80 land parcels to construct new TMREIS campuses, signaling a revival of the Congress vision of providing educational dignity to minorities.

Shabbir Ali congratulated TMREIS students for their recent academic success. “These students are the pride of Telangana’s minority community and a reminder of what visionary policy can achieve,” he said. He pointed out that this year students from TMREIS have secured 36 free MBBS seats, two BDS seats, and several IIT admissions. He praised teachers and principals for creating a disciplined, holistic environment promoting leadership and learning.

He further stated that the Congress government is reversing the academic decline witnessed under the BRS regime, during which over 80 per cent of minority professional colleges had shut down. Within a year, the new administration has added 2,200 engineering seats for minority students, sanctioned a minority law college, two pharmacy colleges, and strengthened TMREIS across districts. Shabbir Ali expressed confidence that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s government would restore the TMREIS system to its original goal—ensuring equal educational opportunity backed by strong infrastructure.
