Shabbir Ali pointed out that in former MLA Gampa Govardhan’s native village, a Congress backed candidate won after nearly 30 years. He said this showed that people rejected the BRS leader’s influence. He also said some Congress rebels won in a few panchayats but remained aligned with the party. He referred to BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao’s earlier statement that the Jubilee Hills bypoll and panchayat elections would be a referendum on Congress. He said both the BJP and the BRS had been decisively rejected. He added that Congress backed candidates won more than 2,300 sarpanch seats across the State.

He said the newly elected sarpanches carried major responsibilities because villages had been deprived of Central and State funds for three years due to the delay in elections. Therefore, he said Congress would use pending allocations of Rs 3,000 crore from the Centre and Rs 3,000 crore from the State to improve village infrastructure. He said special funds from the Chief Minister and his own constituency development resources would also be used. He assured equal development in all villages regardless of party affiliation.

He clarified that the Congress would not forcibly induct leaders from other parties. However, he said those who wished to join would be welcomed. He added that the Bibipet and Domakonda sarpanches who contested as Congress rebels had voluntarily returned to the party. Earlier, he led a rally from Indira Gandhi Chowrasta to the Congress office in Kamareddy, where the elected sarpanches were honoured. He urged them to maintain transparency and take up development work efficiently. He said strong panchayat level governance was the base for the State’s growth. The new sarpanches thanked the public and promised clean and transparent governance. Village elders, youth, women’s groups and Congress workers took part in the rally and felicitation programme.
