Advisor to the Telangana Government for SC, ST, OBC and Minorities, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, assured that the Congress led state government would take firm action against communal forces. He said the government remains committed to protecting peace and harmony across Telangana. He made it clear that hate speech and divisive actions will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Shabbir Ali made these remarks during a meeting with Mohammed Azharuddin, the newly appointed President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Telangana. The meeting took place at Shabbir Ali’s residence in Jubilee Hills. During the visit, Azharuddin presented the organisation’s New Year diary. Shabbir Ali later felicitated him with a shawl and a bouquet. The two leaders also held brief discussions on the political and social situation in the state.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Azharuddin welcomed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s recent announcement on introducing a new law to curb hate speech. He recalled that Jamaat-e-Islami had raised this demand during a meeting with the Chief Minister in October. He thanked Shabbir Ali for pursuing the issue. He said this effort has now resulted in a concrete proposal to address hate speech and protect minority communities.
Both leaders expressed concern over attempts to polarise society through debates on sensitive and divisive topics. These included discussions around “Vande Mataram” and atheism. Shabbir Ali clarified that there is no real controversy over “Vande Mataram”. He accused certain forces of raising old issues to divert attention from important public concerns. He also dismissed the controversy related to atheist views expressed by lyricist Javed Akhtar. He said non belief has existed throughout history and should not be sensationalised.
Later, Shabbir Ali criticised the BJP led NDA government and its affiliated media outlets. He alleged that they promote communal narratives to distract the public. He said the Congress government in Telangana is working closely with NGOs, civil society groups and other stakeholders. He added that these efforts aim to uphold communal harmony across the state.
Shabbir Ali also stressed that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy remains committed to inclusive development. He said the government wants all citizens to benefit equally from the state’s progress, regardless of caste, religion or social status. Therefore, he reiterated that maintaining harmony remains a top priority for the government.
