Modernisation of the Shanigaram Medium Irrigation Project will be completed on a war footing to give water to over 5,100 acres during kharif.
The project would be brought under the Kaleshwaram project, thus creating an assured water source so as to facilitate two crops in its ayacut.
Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao visited the project on Wednesday and interacted with farmers who owned lands in the project’s command area. The Minister said the government would spend Rs 22.73 crore on the modernisation works of the project. One of the medieval irrigation sources, the Shanigaram Cheruvu was restored to the PWD standards way back in 1891.
