- Sheikh Hasina reacts to attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh
- Violence against minorities under Yunus-led government
The attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh have drawn strong condemnation from ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She described the incidents as barbaric and shameful. Her reaction came amid reports of continued violence against Hindu minorities in the neighboring country, which has triggered widespread outrage.
According to the input, a 27-year-old Hindu man, Deepu Chandra Das, was beaten to death by a Muslim mob in the city of Mymensingh on charges of blasphemy. He worked in a factory. The mob later hanged him in public and set his body on fire. This incident has intensified anger and concern. Meanwhile, reports also speak of houses of Hindus being burned, repeated attacks, and the rape of women. As a result, fear among Hindus in Bangladesh has grown.
Sheikh Hasina responded sharply to this series of attacks. She said, “There is no place for religious violence in Bangladesh. However, it is worrying that such acts are happening frequently.” She also pointed to the political situation in the country. “Violence has increased in the country under the Yunus-led government,” she said. She added that minorities have become defenseless.
Hasina further stressed the role of the state in protecting citizens. “The minimum duty of the government is to provide protection to all sections of the people of the country,” she said. However, she accused the current caretaker government of failing in this duty. “The current caretaker government has failed in this regard,” she stated. Therefore, she warned that the situation threatens not only minorities but also the country’s core values.
She also linked the violence to broader concerns. “This is becoming a threat not only to the minorities in Bangladesh but also to the secular and democratic policies of the country,” Hasina said. Later, these remarks added weight to growing criticism over the safety of minorities. The attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh continue to raise serious questions about governance, security, and protection of basic rights.
