Circulating widely on social media, the disturbing videos show individuals engaging in acts of extreme cruelty—killing goats by biting and twisting their necks during animal sacrifice rituals. The incidents reportedly took place in Chinna Metpally village of Jagtial and near Bodrai, Khila Warangal.

PETA, Maneka Gandhi Prompt Police Action

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, with the support of Maneka Gandhi and in coordination with Kotala Sri Vidhya, Cruelty Prevention Assistant at Stray Animal Foundation of India (SAFI), helped facilitate the registration of two FIRs:

  • Korutla Police Station (Jagtial): FIR registered against Neelam Rakesh under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Telangana Animals and Birds Sacrifices Prohibition (TABSP) Act.
  • AJ Mills Colony Police Station (Warangal): FIR filed against an unidentified individual involved in the violent act.

“PETA India is deeply grateful to Maneka Gandhi for her prompt intervention and unwavering support, and we commend the Telangana Police for registering the FIR and sending a strong message that cruelty to animals will not be tolerated.”

Public Outcry Grows Over Animal Rights Violations

The graphic nature of the videos has drawn widespread criticism online, with many users calling for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws and public awareness around humane treatment.

PETA India has reiterated that such practices violate animal welfare legislation and can lead to criminal prosecution, especially under Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the TABSP Act, which prohibits religious animal sacrifices in public or private settings.

A Wake-Up Call for Animal Welfare in India

These incidents serve as a grim reminder of the urgent need for education, legal enforcement, and community engagement to promote compassionate treatment of animals and prevent future acts of brutality.
