Telangana Medical Council Urges Doctors to Display QR Codes for Greater Transparency

Hyderabad, July 28, 2025 (Maxim News) — In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and public trust in medical services, the Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) has urged registered doctors across the state to voluntarily display QR codes—already issued as part of their official registration—at their clinics and on prescriptions.

These QR codes, which are embedded in each doctor’s registration certificate, provide instant access to a practitioner’s professional credentials, such as name, qualification, registration number, and status with the council.

Ensuring Transparency and Combating Quackery

Speaking about the initiative, TGMC Vice-Chairman Dr. G. Srinivas stated:

“QR codes are already included in every registration certificate issued by TGMC. We are encouraging all doctors to display these on their clinic boards and prescription slips. This simple step significantly boosts transparency and helps patients verify the credentials of their healthcare provider.”

The council hopes this measure will serve as an effective deterrent against quackery, which remains a concern in parts of Telangana.

Easy Public Access to Doctor Verification

To further empower the public, TGMC has also introduced an online doctor search feature on its official website. Using a doctor’s registration number, patients can quickly access verified information.

“There is a dedicated section on our TSMC portal where anyone can search for a doctor’s credentials using their registration number,” added Dr. Srinivas.

QR Codes: A Step Toward Digital Healthcare Governance

The Telangana Medical Council introduced QR-coded registration certificates several months ago as part of its efforts to modernize medical governance and promote ethical practices.

The displayed QR code allows patients to:

  • Instantly verify doctor authenticity
  • Access registration status
  • Report any discrepancies

The TGMC is urging clinics, hospitals, and individual practitioners to actively participate in this initiative to foster trust and accountability in the healthcare system.
