The investigation, which spans alleged irregularities from 2019 to 2024, was ordered by the Supreme Court in response to a petition highlighting concerns over food safety and religious sanctity. The SIT is led by the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and includes officers nominated by the Andhra Pradesh State Government and a representative from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

The SIT’s report, submitted in a sealed cover, includes key findings from the ongoing investigation, arrests made, and case details, including petitions filed in local courts and High Courts related to the scandal. The Supreme Court, under the leadership of Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, had earlier directed the formation of this high-level probe on October 10, 2024, given the seriousness of the allegations and public interest involved.

Meanwhile, former TTD Chairman and YSRCP Rajya Sabha MP Y.V. Subba Reddy has filed a separate petition in the Supreme Court seeking a halt to the SIT’s investigation. He claims the SIT is acting in violation of the Court’s directives, and has requested the apex court to intervene and stop the ongoing probe.

The Supreme Court is expected to hear the matter on July 14, and all eyes will be on how it responds to the SIT’s report and Subba Reddy’s objections.

This high-profile case has attracted widespread attention due to the religious significance of the Tirumala temple and the Srivari Laddu, which is offered as prasadam to millions of devotees annually.
