- CM Revanth Reddy calls it smart governance, not just good governance
- Hyderabad development, metro issues and traffic concerns discussed
Hyderabad, March 23: Smart governance was the key focus as Chief Minister Revanth Reddy addressed the Legislative Council during a discussion on Hyderabad’s development. He said the government is not just delivering good governance but is committed to “smart governance” in the state.
Speaking during the session, the Chief Minister said five metro cities in the country are very important. However, he pointed out the challenges faced by them. He noted that Delhi faces pollution issues, forcing closures of schools and offices. Meanwhile, he said Mumbai struggles during heavy rains, which disrupt daily life. In contrast, he described Hyderabad as a “Lakes and Rock City.” He also clarified that the area now called the Old City is the original city.
Smart governance approach targets Hyderabad growth and planning
The Chief Minister said many problems in Hyderabad arise due to human errors. He explained that as people’s financial capacity increases, the number of vehicles also rises. Therefore, traffic congestion has become severe. He recalled that the airport was shifted from Begumpet to Shamshabad to address such issues. He also said the Charlapalli terminal was developed to reduce crowding at Secunderabad railway station.
However, he expressed concern over the decline in Hyderabad Metro’s ranking. He said it dropped from second place in the country to ninth. He also revealed that L and T is not cooperating in metro expansion. Therefore, the government has taken over the metro following suggestions from the central government.
The Chief Minister further said the government is working with a “Cure, Pure, Rare” policy. He stated that polluting industries will be moved outside the Outer Ring Road. He added that the land can then be used for multiple zones. Meanwhile, he acknowledged that people from North Telangana face difficulties due to cantonment restrictions.
To address these issues, he announced plans for elevated corridors in Punjagutta, Hitech City, and Jubilee Hills. He said these corridors will help vehicles move without stopping at signals. Therefore, the government aims to improve traffic flow and take Hyderabad to a global level.
