Srisailam Project Earns International Recognition, Enters World Book of Records
Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar hails the recognition as a proud moment for the Telugu states, highlighting the dam’s engineering strength, power generation and contribution to irrigation and drinking water supply.

Srisailam Project  | Amaravati/Hyderabad, October 13: The Srisailam Project, one of the most important multipurpose water infrastructure projects serving Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, has reportedly earned international recognition with its inclusion in the World Book of Records.

Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar welcomed the recognition, describing it as a proud achievement for both Telugu states.

The minister said the recognition highlighted the project’s engineering capabilities, its ability to withstand massive floods and its decades-long contribution to electricity generation, irrigation and drinking water supply.

Srisailam Project | A Landmark Achievement for Telugu States

Gottipati Ravi Kumar said the Srisailam Project had played a crucial role in supporting the needs of millions of people across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

He described the dam as a symbol of engineering excellence and a vital source of water and electricity.

The minister noted that the reservoir had successfully served farmers, households and industries for several decades while demonstrating resilience during major flood events.

He said the international recognition acknowledged the project’s structural strength and its contribution to regional development.

Srisailam’s Role in Power Generation and Water Supply

Located on the Krishna River, the Srisailam Project is a major multipurpose reservoir serving the two Telugu states.
Apart from generating hydroelectric power, the project supports irrigation activities and provides drinking water to several regions.

The reservoir plays a particularly important role in meeting the water requirements of Rayalaseema, where irrigation and drinking water availability remain major concerns.

The minister emphasised that Srisailam continues to support agricultural development while contributing to the region’s electricity requirements.

Pattiseema Project Helped Rayalaseema, Says Minister

Highlighting the importance of water management initiatives, Gottipati Ravi Kumar credited Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision for the development of the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project.

He said the project had helped improve water availability for Rayalaseema by facilitating the transfer of Godavari water to the Krishna Delta.

According to the minister, the transfer of approximately 500 TMC of water through Pattiseema over time had created greater flexibility in using Krishna River water stored at Srisailam for Rayalaseema’s needs.

He maintained that the initiative had strengthened irrigation opportunities in drought-prone areas while continuing to support farmers in the Krishna Delta.

The minister said Srisailam remained essential for agricultural activities and drinking water supply in Rayalaseema.

He pointed out that the reservoir had helped sustain farming communities for decades and continued to play a significant role in regional water security.

The project’s importance extends beyond Rayalaseema, with its water resources also contributing to the agricultural needs of the Krishna Delta.

Ravi Kumar said effective utilisation of Srisailam’s water resources was essential for ensuring sustainable agricultural growth and meeting future water requirements.

Recognition Highlights Engineering Excellence

The Srisailam Dam is among India’s prominent hydroelectric and irrigation infrastructure projects.
Its ability to manage substantial water inflows during heavy rainfall and flood conditions has been an important aspect of its operations.
