Hyderabad, Sept.19 (Maxim News): Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy today said they were supplying quality seeds to the farmers in the State.
Replying to a question raised by members in the House, he said Telangana State was the most suitable for the production of quality seeds and said the credit to supply the quality seeds went to the State government. He also said they had introduced new laws to file criminal cases against those companies, which sell spurious seeds to the farmers. He claimed that the Centre had taken the seed policy of the State as its role model.
Singireddy said they had increased the seed production capacity by two times. “As against the actual capacity of 3.48 lakh quintals of production capacity, the production capacity of the State has gone up to 6.4 lakh quintals in the state now. “We have set up seed processing units in all the 31 Assembly constituencies in the State. Seed storage capacity has gone up to 5.3 lakh mt in the State by establishing modern godowns in the State.
“We have strengthened our vigilance teams to protect our borders. A dedicated State-level task force has been set up for the Agriculture department by us,” he said, adding that the State was exporting seed to 18 counties in the world. He also said plans were afoot to set up a seed park in 150 acres and added that States like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh had sought land in their seed park. (Maxim News)
