Stay Safe Online | Hyderabad, March 17 (Maxim News): Press Information Bureau (PIB), Hyderabad in association with CDAC organized a one-day media workshop ‘Vartalap’ for journalists to sensitize and create awareness among them on safe use of electronic gadgets and internet communications on the theme ‘Stay Safe Online Campaign’ as part of Digital Economy Working Group.

Strengthen ties between the media and the government” is the main motto of this Vartalap said Shruti Patil, Additional Director General in her keynote address. She said the purpose of organizing this workshop is to find means of conveying information to the masses through the media.

She highlighted different initiatives of the central government taken up for the benefit of the common people. Being the fourth pillar of democracy, the media need to be informed about the schemes of the government so that it reaches the masses, she added.

M Jagadish Babu, Tyeb Naushad Project Managers for Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) Project of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India attended the program as the key note speakers.

M Jagadish Babu in his address said Navigating cyber space could be dicey. On internet no one is safe. Every moment, our foot print is being maintained and tracked. So, we should maintain cyber hygiene. ‘A staggering 95 out of every 100 data breaches are caused by human error.’ Just 49 % of mobile users have an antivirus app.

Tyeb Naushad appealed everyone to use antivirus on their smart phones to secure their data and avoid any breach. He requested the journalists to sensitize the common people on cyber security issues and how to secure their data.

The technical sessions were followed by interactive question-answer sessions in which journalists talked to the experts and cleared their doubts regarding Cyber Security related topics. The journalists also thanked PIB for organising the workshop and expressed hope that more such workshops will be organized in future.

Around 60 journalists from different media organizations attended the workshop. The workshop was organized as a part of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s media outreach strategy conceptualized to act as a bridge between the masses and the government by empowering journalists with authentic information about government schemes and policies.
