Steps on for Musi river beautification: KTR

Hyderabad, March 10 (Maxim News): Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao today said they would take steps for the beautification of Musi river at an estimated cost of Rs 16,634 crore. He also said the government was taking up SRDP second phase works at a cost of Rs.3,115 crore in all zones of GHMC.

Replying to questions raised by the members in the Assembly on the issue of the works taken up for the development of the Musi river and its catchment areas, the minister made it clear that the State government was committed for the beautification of the river. He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao held meetings with the well known architect Hafeez contractor on the issue between 2014 and 2015. He said they had made plans to show a permanent solution to the river problem.

The minister said the State capital has 54 major nalas and 94 percent of the sewage was being released in the Musi river while noting that the river had turned into a cess pool. He also said they had made plans for comprehensive development of the Musi river and reduce its pollution. He also said the State government had set up Musi River Front Development Corporation for the development of the river and added that they had taken up the construction works of walk ways at Nagole, Chadarghat and Muslim Jung bridge in the city. He said they had put up floating trash barriers at some places in the river to remove hyacinth and other waste products.
He said they had also taken up works like the usage of hydraulic excavators and fogging to reduce mosquito problem.

Explaining the initiatives planned under the River Musi rejuvenation and development, KTR said Rs 9,000 crore was proposed for the elevated East to West elevated corridor along the River Musi. The State Government was taking up River Godavari linking from Kondapochamma to Gandipet with a cost of Rs.1,250 crore. This apart, 31 STPs were being proposed at decentralized locations with Rs.3,866 crore and these works would be completed by December this year, he said.

The minister also said under the River Musi beautification, about Rs 2,000 crore was approved, 14 bridges across River Esa and River Musi would be constructed with Rs.545 crore and three check dams with nearly Rs.300 crore were also proposed, he explained. (Maxim News)
