Stone Pelting During Kyathanpally Municipal Election

Kyathampally / Hyderabad, Feb. 17 (Maxim News) : Tension erupted in Kyathampally municipality of Mancherial during the chairperson and vice chairperson election on Tuesday. The situation turned violent and led to a stone pelting incident.

Both Bharat Rashtra Samithi and Indian National Congress tried hard to capture the municipality. As a result, tension had been building since Saturday.

On Tuesday, police stopped BRS MLA Kova Lakshmi and former MLA Balka Suman when they arrived at the municipal office. Soon after, workers from both parties began pushing each other. Therefore, police used mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

However, the situation worsened. Kyathanpally Municipal Election allegedly pelted stones at the convoy of Minister Vivek Venkataswamy and at police personnel. In the incident, the windshields of the minister’s vehicle and Peddapalli MP Vamshi Krishna’s car were damaged.

In addition, a police constable and two others suffered injuries. Officials rushed them for treatment. Meanwhile, police tightened security in the area.

Stone Pelting| Political Numbers Behind the Clash

The Kyathampally municipality has 22 wards. BRS won 10 seats, Congress secured 7, CPI won 4 and one independent candidate emerged victorious. Moreover, there are two ex officio votes. With this, Congress strength reached 10.

Since neither party has a clear majority, both sides made strong efforts to gain support. Therefore, the atmosphere remained tense. Anticipating trouble, police arranged five layer security around the municipal office.
