HYDRA, which currently covers Greater Hyderabad, will be extended to HMDA (Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority). The government has decided to divide the entire system into three zones and assign their responsibilities to SP-level officers.

Three New Zones

Hyderabad Police Commissionerate will be divided into Central Zone, Cyberabad, North Zone, and Rachakonda into South Zone.  The exercise has started to appoint zonal officers and full staff for these.  These three zones are supervised by the Chief Commissioner.

The Legal Department is studying to give legitimacy to HYDRA, which was formed by a special G.O. less than two months ago.  The government has decided to issue an ordinance on this.

HYDRA Chief Ranganath Explains

HYDRA Chief AV Ranganath explained that in the background of proroguing the legislative assembly after the recently held budget meetings, the government has got flexibility to issue ordinances. To this extent, it is known that the authorities are seeking to prepare the draft in a week or ten days. The government will introduce a law related to this in the upcoming Assembly session.

The state government will also bring in a separate police force for HYDRA.  A special system has been turned to the fact that regular policemen are used for this purpose and their day-to-day duties are hampered.  If such a system materializes, it will be the fourth in the country.

Two New Police Stations Opened

At present there is a special police station (Station House Officer-SHO) to oversee the security affairs of the area. It is the first Special Police System in the country. Recently, two separate police stations for Cyber security and Narcotics departments were opened in Telangana.

Another arrangement will be made for HYDRA. An ACP-level officer will supervise this.  This SHO system investigates the cases on its own, independent of the regular police.  (Maxim News)
