Supreme Court Anger On Ranveer Allahbadia: Will You Say Anything If You Are Popular?
Delhi/Hyderabad, Feb 18 (Maxim News): The Supreme Court has criticized YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia for his controversial comments about India’s Got Talent (IGT). The court questioned whether being popular gives someone the right to say anything they want.
“If this is not indecency, then what is? You have shown what’s on your mind through this program. Such behavior is unacceptable. Just because you are popular, does that mean you can say anything? Society will not accept such language. Why should the court protect such people?” the Supreme Court said.
Despite its criticism, the court relieved Ranveer, ordering that no more police cases should be filed against him. However, it warned him not to leave the country without permission and stopped him from hosting any shows until further notice.
Public Outrage and Legal Action
Ranveer faced heavy backlash after he made inappropriate comments about a contestant’s parents and sexuality on the Samay Rama show. Several Members of Parliament also condemned his remarks, leading to multiple FIRs being registered against him in different states.
Ranveer then approached the Supreme Court, requesting that all FIRs against him be combined into one case. His lawyer, Abhinav Chandrachud—son of former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud—argued that while Ranveer’s comments were wrong, he had been receiving death threats.
The court suggested that Ranveer could seek protection from Maharashtra and Assam police. It also asked the Central government if any steps were being taken to regulate inappropriate content online. (Maxim News)
