Take Dengue Control Measures on War Footing: Demands Gudur
- CM should review the situation immediately
Hyderabad, October 8: Bharatiya Janata Party state senior leader Gudur Narayana Reddy on Friday demanded Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao to review the situation arising out of spread of Dengue in the state immediately and take control measures on war footing.
In a media statement, he said that the hospitals are full with the patients of Dengue. He said that the spread of Dengue in the state was at epidemic levels, ringing alarm bells among the people. He said that according to government records there were 4,694 Dengue cases all over the state till October 5.
However, the number might be double than what the government claims. He said that the disease has wrecked havoc in 2019 as the state logged about 13,361 cases in that year.
Though the number of cases was less in last year, it was at alarming level in this monsoon season. He said that while the number of Covid positive cases has been coming down, number of Dengue cases was on the rise.
He alleged that the Health department did not pay enough attention towards Dengue in this monsoon season and this was the reason for the sudden spurt in the cases. He said that there were heavy rains in the state during the monsoon season in this year and the sanitation situation has deteriorated to worse.
Spread of Dengue
Mosquito menace is high and this was the reason for the spread of Dengue. He said that the sanitation situation was much worse in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation as water logging has taken place at hundreds of places since last year.
Many colonies are still in water in several areas. Number of Dengue cases was also quite high in GHMC limits, he added. He said that the private hospitals have been fleecing the Dengue patients from middle and poor sections.
They have been collecting lakhs of rupees from the patients in the name of tests, ICU charges, and infusion of platelets.
Narayana Reddy alleged that the municipal and panchayat departments’ staff was complacent in controlling the disease.
He said that no mosquito control measures were taken since the onset of monsoon season in the state.
He said that there was no minister to look after Health portfolio and the subject was with the Chief Minister.
“But the Chief Minister is not available to anyone and he would be busy pursuing his whims and fancies. There is an urgent need to appoint a dynamic person as Minister of Health so that issues like Dengue could be handled effectively,” he said.
The BJP senior leader said that there was an urgent need to address the Dengue situation in the state and the Chief Minister should hold a review meeting immediately. Concerned departments should be given proper instructions to control the spread of the disease.
Those who are neglecting their responsibilities should be taken to task. Government should take steps to provide platelets at free of cost. All these steps should be taken at war footing so that the common people could get relief immediately, He said.
